You Are Bitter

You talked of dying, and platitudes
of life were blowing like leaves of Autumn
around my mind.  I feared your moods
forebode a serious intent
and tried with weary words to blot them
from my mind.  "What do you want,"
I asked, "a world that has no pain?"
"Relief from me, and worthlessness."
I told you then how much you meant
to me and others, and again
you talked of dying and the rest
you wanted from living in the sun,
and then, "My bitter mood will pass,"
you said.  "Don't fret. I won't die soon."
